Tide-Timed Concrete Footing & Seawall Alterations for a Waterfront Property

This was an unusual request, but a little job I really enjoyed — and for a repeat client. We’ve completed several renovation projects on this property over the past 10 years, but this was something we’d never done before: a pontoon concrete footing.

Having done plenty of concreting and detailed formwork over the years, the job itself was straightforward… but there was a catch.

First, we had to work with the tides. The client, being an avid fisherman, told us exactly when we’d have a one-and-a-half-day window to get the job done. The second catch was getting 80 bags of ready-mix concrete from the driveway down to the shoreline. Thankfully, the recently installed inclinator helped — even though it took 11 trips to get everything down the hill.

Once on site, we built the formwork, poured the concrete, and stripped it the following day. We then made alterations to the existing stone seawall in preparation for the new aluminium and hardwood walkway.

The client arranged for the new pontoon to be installed and the old one to be removed and disposed of.

I really enjoy these small, challenging jobs — and Cottage Point is a magic location to work. Luckily, we’ve done a fair bit of work there over the years.
